There’s a clear goal of activating Magda’s ability by sacrificing Treasures, so you have lots of flexibility in how to do that and what you find.
Magda, Brazen Outlaw is one of those perfectly constructed commanders that clearly signposts how you’re meant to build a deck around it. This deck may seem like a one-trick pony, but I assure you it is a very good trick that can often win you the game. This is perfect for cards like Darksteel Forge that can be a big help in this deck but are hard to cast on their own. I’ve also included lots of expensive dragons and artifacts that you can find with Magda. Of course, all this Treasure is meaningless if you don’t have something to cheat out with it. I also included dwarves that can tap themselves or others so you can reliably create Treasure without risking your creatures in an attack, like Axgard Cavalry. Cards like Xorn and Goldspan Dragon seem like perfect fits for this deck because they help activate Magda, Brazen Outlaw’s ability. I'll be exploring this between now and War's release.This deck is all about cheating out big artifacts and dragons, so I put an emphasis on cards that generate Treasure tokens. The fact we get to pull from the sideboard is a huge deal. You aren't throwing your sideboard out, but leaning towards artifacts a little more now that you can tutor them G1. list goes on.įrom a deckbuilding standpoint, it will be a challenge to figure out what to swap in the sideboard, but at least all of the artifacts I have in mind are powerful sideboard options already. He could be used to answer a PW via Pithing Needle or Spyglass, slow down a swarm of creatures or a big hexproof one via Bridge, nuke a graveyard (same turn as he's played if you use Tormod's Crypt). UW(x) Control abstractly likes flexibility in its cards and Karn gives you access in G1 to all of your sideboard artifacts. Karn can tutor an artifact that will help you stabilize, produces CA by immediately replacing himself with a relevant card and sticking around (thus requiring resources from your opponent to answer) and can quickly close the game by tutoring a stabilizing card the turn you play him and then Mycosynth Lattice to lock your opponent out of lands once you're stable. You want your PW able to produce card advantage, be useful while you're still stabilizing and be able to close the door shut once you've stabilized. The play pattern would be similar to the use of other PW in UW(x). The static ability is very relevant in Modern, hitting Vial, Affinity, Hardened Scales Affinity and Prison. UW(x) Control could be tuned to support a SB artifact package of some combination of Ensnaring Bridge, Mycosynth Lattice, Crucible of Worlds, Tormod's Crypt (or Nihil Spellbomb if in black), Damping Sphere, Grafdigger's Cage, Spellskite, Pithing Needle and Batterskull depending on meta and what you're trying to do.
